Tips on Brewing Tea

Brewing Black Teas

Water should always be at a rolling boil (~212° F)

Use 1 rounded tsp of tea leaves per 6 oz. water (standard teacup). A 24 oz two-person teapot would use 4 tsp of tea.

Steep according to tea directions. Even 10 – 15 seconds can change the flavor profile of your tea. Black teas can become bitter if over-steeped, the flavors of the tea getting lost in the tannins. Drain tea strainer—never squeeze the leaves or the teabag as doing so releases bitter flavors into the tea! Serve and enjoy!

Brewing Green Teas

Water should always be at a simmer (~180 – 190° F). If you don’t have a thermometer, bring water to a boil then allow to sit 4 – 5 minutes before using.

Use 1 tsp of tea leaves per 6 oz. water (standard teacup). A 24 oz two-person teapot would use 4 tsp of tea.

Steep according to tea directions. Even 10 – 15 seconds can change the flavor profile of your tea. Green teas can become very ‘grassy’ if brewed incorrectly, so make sure to watch your timer! Drain tea strainer—never squeeze the leaves or the teabag as doing so releases bitter flavors into the tea. Serve and enjoy!
